Ok, it’s official. I’m going to start posting once a day, if not multiple times a day. Who knows how long it will last. Perhaps only as long as I’m trapped in Orange County. I guess time will tell.
Another thing that’s official is that I’m going to join Erica in the ranks of people with tiny tiny rooms next year. This afternoon, while on a three-way call with 2 of my housemates… we called another member of our cohort and had him pick names out of a hat to determine who got stuck in the small room. As luck would have it, my name got pulled last. So next year I’ll be living in a box that is 8’ X 9.5’. To give you an understanding of what this means, I’ll list a few examples of other things that are about the size of my bedroom next year.
*the handicap stalls in most public restrooms
*the walk-in closet I had in San Francisco
*the pens they keep bucking broncos in right before they release them at rodeos
Yeah, it’s gonna be stellar. I keep trying to remind myself of all the things I told Erica when she decided to take the tiny room in Berkeley. “You can put shelves up on the walls.” “It’ll seem bigger if you paint it a lighter color.” “Buy a few plants and they will liven things up.” Somehow, I seem less convincing when I’m giving myself these pieces of advice. My only consolation is that I will be paying super cheap rent, which is another thing I convinced Erica to focus on not so long ago.
Any other bright ideas???

Not a gigantic bedroom, but a room with a nice, comfy, monstrous bed in it that you can climb over to get to your closet and your brightly colored walls/shelves. You lose a little walking around space, but you haven't much of that anyway and the giant bed makes it well worth it, my friend. (hang the plants from the ceiling). Space saver, eh? That's using the old noodle.

plus... u can try to achieve "doug herstad"-ness by sleeping in small places, since he always slept in a small coat closet.

Some of the best days of my life were spent in the dank and tiny basement room in the Proo' house in college. You'll be so busy in school, Jolie, that you'll be glad everything in your room is at arm's length from your desk. Plus, if you and a friend are ever tied back-to-back on the floor by a bad person, and the water level begins to rise and will soon drown you both, you can climb up the wall with your four feet and chill on the ceiling until help arrives. You're lucky nobody's thought about that yet, or your rent would triple.

One thing I was considering is that when I have a larger space, I don't use it very well (ie, I just fill it full of messiness). Maybe the smaller room will make me less messy. Less room for mess = less mess, right? Perhaps the small room will cause me to turn a new leaf!

I may end up turning the upstairs hallway into another Black Cultural Center. Or, I may try to cram everything onto the small wallspace I have, creating a weird collage effect...as seen on the Royal Tennenbaums staircase walls.
