Honestly, that has to have been one of the poorest excuses for a natural disaster since well, I dunno. Our friend Isabel was barely even a tropical storm by the time she got to College Park. She was all talk coming over the gulf stream sending us into a panic with her 100mph winds and threats of flooding. But she had basically pissed herself out by the time she got to my house. My housemates and I wasted about $140 and time/energy we didnt have on emergency supplies for no reason. My roommate Paul was so irritated that he was standing on the front porch at the height of the storm taunting the wind and rain. In his finest hour, he threw his hands up in the air shouting, Is that all youve got for us you little bitch? Ive never seen a storm so wussy in my entire life! You think youre hot shit because you can blow a few leaves into my yard? Come back when youre all grown up, I dont have time to play games little girl.
I guess the damage is worse in other places. Downtown Baltimore supposedly had 3-5 feet of standing water. Before we lost power we saw pictures of the Potomac spilling over the sea wall. But all in all, Isabel was nothing to write home about. Our house still doesnt have power. But we all agree that its been kind of fun to do our studying by candle light. It makes us feel colonial. =)
as you might guess, "feeling colonial" gets real old, real quick. luckily, our power was just restored! and it only took them three fucking days. now I can go back to procrastinating with the lights on.
Posted by: Jolie on September 21, 2003 10:15 AMi'd procrastinate with the lights off with you anytime, baby. *wink*
p.s. i saw another great drag king performance friday night, and i swear my heart is still racing. hotty totty totty!!!
Posted by: erica on September 21, 2003 01:05 PMI have a friend in Baltimore right now. I wonder if she is still standing in 3 to 5 feet of water. Hmmmm.
also, Erica. I saw a great transvestite performance last night. Hotty totty totty, too.
Posted by: kati on September 21, 2003 01:42 PMthe funny thing is, you *did* write home about it. if this blog counts.
i always wondered if wind storms were really like in the wizard of oz. i guess not though. now i'm a little wiser, and a little sadder.
Posted by: didofoot on September 22, 2003 08:22 AMerica - I'd get colonial with you anytime, baby - just don't ask me to go victorian (unless, of course, it's tipping the velvet style) Can I get a wittness?
didofoot - I had actually noted the irony of the "nothing to write home about comment," but I was hoping that none of my friends would point out my blunder. Thank you for dashing my hopes, and my dreams while you were at it. I bid you to testify as an order of penance.
