Today our office took a "staff development day." Which meant that I got paid, just like I would have had I gone to work. Except my colleagues and I:
*Sat around in our slippers drinking coffee and hot cider
*Played truth or dare
*Watched Ferris Beuler's Day Off
*Consumed a ridiculous amount of delicious breakfast food including eggs benedict and waldorf salad
*Went bowling
*Played air hockey, ski ball, and other fun arcade games
*Went shopping at the mall
and
*Had an extended happy hour at Chili's, which included drinking and eating tastey tastey appetizers on somebody elses tab
Ah, the joys of Student Affairs.
Posted by j*2the*olie at September 29, 2003 03:44 PMDid I mention the fact that we started drinking at noon? Oops, I forgot that part. The drinking wasn't mandatory or anything, but it did help my bowling game.
Posted by: Jolie on September 29, 2003 06:28 PMYou sound like you and your colleagues have an efficiant business ethic going on.
Have you considered working from home?
Well, considering the fact that those of us who are part time often end up working 40 hour weeks, and those who are full time typically work 60 hour weeks, this "day of fun" was well deserved. Plus, there is something to be said for building team bonds. If I have fun with a group of people, I'm going to have better communication with them. And better communication leads to a healthier, more efficient working environment.
So yes, actually, we do have an efficient business ethic.
